The four-leaf clover (or four-leaflet clover) is an uncommon variation of the very common three-leaf clover.

According to superstition, these kinds bring good luck to their finders. If someone finds it accidentally, it is said to have even more good luck. This is because about 1 in every 10,000 clovers has four leaves.

Meanings of leaflets

Clovers can have many more than four leaflets, as the most ever recorded was eighteen. According to legend, each leaf represents something:

  1. The 1st leaf represents hope.
  2. The 2nd leaf represents faith.
  3. The 3rd leaf represents love.
  4. The 4th leaf represents luck.

Legend also holds that if a lady hangs a four-leaf clover on her door, the next man to walk through the door will be her husband.
