Lavender

Lavender comes from the Latin Lavare that means To Wash. It is both a light shade of purple and a sweet smelling, flowering plant whose petals range in color from deep purple to white or pink.

Lavender is a symbol of devotion, purity, silence, grace and calmness.

Like other shades of purple, lavender was used in 19th century Britain for half-mourning[1]. Black would be worn and used to identify those in mourning for a close loved one. Lavender and other shades of purple were used after the initial period of mourning or by people who were less closely related.
